Got my drain line installed, put on the cheapest garbage FRAM I could find, bought 3 quarts of ATF and a quart of 20w40, dumped that all in the car and fired it up. At first the lifter tick was significantly quieted down then it came back loud as ever but after 30 minutes of idling it was running smoother and quieter than it ever had before. Have a video.

ATF/Seafoam/Rislone will quiet the HLAs down for a few thousand km but mine always fire back up after sustained hard use or warm temperatures. I think I’m gonna be stuck buying new Kia ones.

Kia ones? Where does one buy a set of those and how much do they run for? I saw some 1.6 Miata ones on eBay for around $90 a set and was thinking of getting those.

Kia licensed the B6/BP for use in a bunch of their cars. As a result it has the same HLA as the Mazda implementation but their parts bins are way cheaper.
1994-97 Kia Sephia GS is what Keith Tanner says to ask for. Reportedly they are $10/per instead of $40/per.

Yikes. So $160 for a set? Ugh. Fun stuff.
